About
95% of people incarcerated will get out. 1,800-2,400 people are released from Nebraska prisons each year. Returning to the community after incarceration is crisis.
Housing, employment, and financial barriers at every turn, RISE aims to use this simulation as a tool for community members to better understand the invisible handcuffs and road blocks of returning citizens. While the experience of reentry can never truly be accurate without first hand experience, it is our hope that this simulation is thought-provoking and educational.
During this reentry simulation, participants will be given a “life card” and mock identity reflecting that of an individual returning to the community after incarceration. Participants will navigate “four weeks” of reentry in roughly one hour.
Following the reentry simulation, participants will debrief their experience together with RISE staff.
Who Can Participate
All community members who are curious about reentry and the criminal justice system.
This event runs from 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM.
