Volunteer Opportunity: Online Business Research

RISE’s In-Prison Program participant’s are at the stage in their programming where they are beginning to put together business plans. Research is very difficult for our participants due to lack of internet inside facilities and modern resources, but crucial to their end business pitch for their upcoming business pitch competition!

OCC Cohort 9 RISE Graduation and Business Pitch Competition

YOU’RE INVITED!

Please join RISE and your loved one on Tuesday, June 11th, 2024 from 11:15 am to 3:30 pm for their RISE Graduation and Business Pitch Competition!

Your loved one has spent the past six months in a program that focuses on character development, leadership, job readiness, building positive relationships, and developing an entrepreneurial mindset. During this time, they've created business plans from scratch and pitched them to panels of community-volunteer judges, competing for IOU prizes to help with their reentry when the time comes.

How are business plans and pitches relevant to reentry planning? This exercise is all about making the most of opportunities, overcoming challenges, succeeding in different situations, asking for help, and thinking critically about problems. In the end, it all connects!

We are SO excited for you to celebrate this huge accomplishment with your loved one!

Below is important information for you to know:

  • Your arrival time inside the Omaha Correctional Center lobby on June 11th is at exactly 11:15 AM.
We completely understand and get that naturally, you’re going to be excited and want to arrive early (we would too). However, the Nebraska Department of Corrections gives very strict instructions to NOT ARRIVE EARLY. So pretty please, do not arrive inside the facility lobby until exactly 11:15 AM. If you are early, we ask that you please wait in your car until 11:15 AM.

  • All you need to bring is your photo ID. DO NOT FORGET YOUR ID! If you do not have your ID, you will not be allowed into the facility and we'll be so sad.

  • When you arrive to the facility (at exactly 11:15 AM 😆 ) you will be greeted by RISE Volunteer Relations Manager, Chantal Wentz. She will help get you checked in, through the security process, and into the event space. Keep an eye out for her.

  • You will need to abide by the Nebraska Department of Corrections’ dress code. We’ve simplified it for you at the bottom of this page.

  • All attendees must complete the Attendee Release and Waiver of Liability Agreement before attending.

  • Photos will be taken at this event. It will take about 1 month for the photos to be ready. A link will be sent to you via a text message where you will be able to access and download the photos at your leisure.

  • This event ends promptly at 3:30 PM.

  • We will send a reminder text message to you 2 days prior to the event.
