NDCS-Approved

Dress code

Please read the important information below prior to arrival.

1. DO NOT FORGET YOUR ID! If you do not have your ID, you will not be allowed into the facility and we'll be so sad.

2. DO NOT FORGET YOUR NDCS VOLUNTEER BADGE.

3. As excited as we all are to be together for a fun event with our Builders, please be mindful of your surroundings. This is still a locked-down prison facility with staff members that need to check us in as people and our supplies.

4. Please be consistent and respectful in how you show up every single time to every single facility. Developing the "it's allowed here, but not there" mentality impacts the reputation we have as RISE with NDCS.

5. Dress code: To ensure you are not turned away at the door (it's happened before), please adhere to the following NDCS requirements, every single time, in every facility. (Please understand tat these are rules set in place by NDCS, not RISE):

Pants:
• NO Leggings or spandex/stretch pants.
• Please be cautious to wear skinny jeans or pants - skew more towards loose-legged pants.
• Pants must have back pockets.
• NO shorts.
• NO skirts unless you have specific religious approval through NDCS.
• NO hats unless you have specific religious approval through NDCS.
• NO watches.

Shirts:
NO GREY RISE TSHIRTS. Only our black-issued RISE shirts are allowed inside facilities.
• NO hoodies or hoods on jackets/sweaters.
• NO tank tops.
• NO V-Neck tops.
• NO....halter tops, tube tops, sleeveless dresses or shirts, spaghetti/string tied tops, backless tops, muscle shirts, tank tops, half shirts, crop tops, or other clothing revealing bare shoulders, a bare midriff or any part of the breast, chest or back.
• NO see-through clothing.
• NO underwire bras.
• You must wear undergarments.
• You CANNOT combine both khaki-colored pants and a shirt at the same time. A visitor may wear khaki pants or khaki shirt, but never at the same time.
• NO offensive logos or phrasing on any piece of clothing.

RISE Staff introducing themselves at an in-prison event.

Shoes:
• Go for comfort! You will be on your feet and moving around all day.
• NO high heels.
• NO sandals or open-toed shoes.

Our suggestion? Keep it simple and “rinse and repeat” each time. Have a few go-to pairs of pants, a black RISE t-shirt or crewneck sweatshirt, blazer or cardigan, and a comfy nice pair of dress shoes or fun pair of tennis shoes.
