In-Prison Business Pitch Competition and Graduation

RISE staff and community volunteers spend a full day inside the prison facility. Volunteers sit on panels and serve as judges throughout the morning hearing program participants' business pitches. Volunteers score the pitches and vote for the participants who will move on to the next round of pitching.

The top participants will then pitch again while peers, volunteers, and guests vote, and the winners of the competition are announced. There is a cap and gown ceremony and certificates are awarded. Sharing of testimonies from participants, staff, volunteers, and family members concludes this meaningful day!

Lunch, coffee, water, and snacks provided.

  • NDCS-approved dress code

  • 8-10 hour time commitment

Before you volunteer:

Reliability is everything. While we understand the unpredictability of lives and schedules, the cancellation of volunteers prior to an event can throw a large wrench in the agenda for our events. Our ideal scenario provides 2-3 community volunteers for each program participant.

Additionally, keep in mind that when entering any NDCS facility as a volunteer you will be required to keep your personal belongings (cell phone, car keys, wallet, etc.) in a safe locker until you are exiting for the day. It is also required that all volunteers remain in the provided space for the duration of the event.
